You cannot produce a quality manuscript unless you know and understand your audience well. Therefore, while writing quality content is important, one of the main things to consider is to analyze your audience to ensure what you are writing is relevant to the people you want to get your content in front of. This means gaining a thorough knowledge of the people who you are targeting through your writing. Every writer needs to ask themselves one important question: Who is it they are writing for?
What is the point of your content if it does not attract or influence your intended audience? Therefore, analyzing your target audience is an important task not to be skipped or taken lightly. No one can ignore the fact that the whole purpose of writing is that it should be read by someone. Thus, it is essential to understand what the reader would like to read. Only then will you be able to attract the right audience to your content.
Analyzing your audience helps in following areas:
1. Determines what to write: Knowing your audience and their interests saves you from wasting your time and efforts in writing something that will not yield positive results. A proper understanding of your audience enables you to fill your article with insight that will help you achieve your ultimate goal. ie: pleasing your readers. For example, Im writing these series of articles because I can see a lack of knowledge for new online business owners in how to properly start and grow their business.
2. Attracts the Readers: When you know what your readers need, and you have the talent to produce exactly that, then nothing can stop you from creating the right kind of magic in your writing. Audiences are automatically attracted towards quality content.
When people get what they want, they don't only get pleased by your effort, but they also develop a liking towards the rest of your work.
3. Entertains the readers: All that your readers want is something of interest that doesn't only provide them information but also entertains them. They become invested in the content and they want to participate in relevant discussions with great interest. If the writer keeps providing them with quality content (based on the writer's in depth knowledge of their reader's profile and interests), the readers don't only stay loyal with the content but they also spread good word of mouth that results in increased number of readers.
The question that arises from all of this is that how can you analyze your audience? Most of us know how important it is to analyze the audience, but we find ourselves lost on how to go about undertaking this analysis. We often think that the only way to analyze our audience is through questions. You can analyze your audience by asking them questions in a way that makes them feel good. This can be done by focusing on a 'you' aspect in the questions as it gives them a feeling that you care for them. This doesn't only motivate them to answer your questions but it also results in honest opinions from the audience. While analyzing your audience, you should use the ways that please your audience and encourage them to respond. Information received from your audience can help you make important strategic decisions that will ultimately result in success and achievement of your goals and objectives.
Another method of analyzing an audience is to seek out forums on related subjects, and review the topics and comments. Topics that have high levels of response are generally more interesting to people than ones that generate fewer responses.
Social media is a good way to analyze an audience. Posting "teaser" memes or comments to analyze the reaction is a good way to determine a level of interest from an audience.
If you find your results lacking in response from your audience, maybe test a different approach and see what results you get.
